NEWS: Remy Ma Sentenced To 8 Years, Wedding Called Off

This past Tuesday (May 13) Hip Hop star Remy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison, for charges of assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion.

The sentence stems from a shooting incident that occured in July 2007, which left a childhood acquaintance, 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph, seriously wounded. The 26-year-old rapper (born Reminisce Smith), who potentially could have faced a 25 year sentence, maintains that the shooting was an accident.

It has not been a good week for the former Terror Squad member. On Monday (May 12), it was announced that her planned wedding with fiancé Papoose, has been postponed indefinitely.

The ceremony, which was underway at Riker's Island correctional facility in New York, was called off abruplty after Papoose (born Shamele Mackie) was allegedly found to be sneaking a key into the facility, which apparently would unlock handcuffs. Ivan Fisher, Remy's lawyer, is denying the allegations.

Papoose surrended the key to authorities and was asked to leave the facility. He is now barred from visiting Remy for six months.
