Pressure, expectation and the best six turntablists in Australia all vying to knock him from the top spot. That’s what DJ Perplex had to contend with at the Australian Finals of the DMC World DJ Championships, which went down last Friday night The Metro in Melbourne.
Many would have crumbled under the pressure, but 23 year old Ollie Winter aka DJ Perplex proved why he’s worthy of being crowned Australia’s best by blowing the competition out of the water with a blistering routine that’s set to do some major damage at the World Finals in London this October.
To ensure that he would defend his title, Perplex stepped up to the challenge with custom-made records ensuring the originality of his set. On a technical level he dished up world-class cuts, scratches and beat juggles which sent the audience into a spin but obviously also impressed the judges because 10 of the 12 placed Perplex in 1st place. His win of 34 points, placed him a whopping 19 points ahead of his closest rival DJ Snair.
Perplex’s blazing title-winning performance caps off one of the biggest Australian DMC DJ Championships in years, with state finals being hosted in NSW, QLD, ACT, WA and VIC.
This is how the results ended up:
1st: DJ Perplex - 34 points
2nd: DJ Snair - 15 points
3rd: B.2WO - 14 pints
4th: DJ Skoob - 7 points
5th: A-Style - 5 points
6th: DJ Zeke - 3 points
