From the man that brought you the seminal 1200 Techniques and the superbly catchy It’s About To Blow and Rock Ya Baby singles that have been igniting clubs and radio around the country, comes DJ Peril with his debut solo album King of the Beats.
With over 20 scene-shaping years in the hip hop biz under his belt, there are few Australian artists who could claim to know as much about rocking crowds as Peril. As a DJ, Peril is known Australia wide for his ability to get even the most static dancefloor warmed up and grooving.
As 1200 Techniques DJ/producer, Peril’s deft studio skills saw the trio transcend their underground status to become the first Australian hip hop group to cross over into the mainstream, winning an ARIA in 2002 for their single Karma off the stellar album Choose One, which went on to sell more than 60,000 copies.
Collaborating with the cream of the Australian hip hop crop, Peril is reunited with his old 1200 Techniques front man Nfamas (or N’fa as he’s now known) in Pretty Lady, the irresistibly smooth ode to the fairer sex. In the chart-dominating single It’s about to Blow, Peril bands together with his crew Suburban Intellect (MC Surreal & Nate B) for a raise-the-roof style anthem which spent an impressive 20 weeks in the top 5 of the national radio airplay charts.
For the new single ‘Rock Ya Baby’ the irresistible groove keeps flowing, with American soul singer Rahsaan Patterson joining Peril and MC Surreal on a track that’s rapidly garnering widespread love from DJs and clubbers alike. To round off the package with one of the most original hip hop clips to surface for sometime, there is no question that Rock Ya Baby will become a crowd favourite.
Completing the all-star line-up of collaborators is the lauded soul singer Daniel Merriweather and emerging star Phrase on Who is She, with Daz from Downsyde, Knowledge Bones, Kemstar and Motly also contributing their talents to the project.
The perfect marriage of radio-friendly hooks, with groove-shaking dancefloor moves, King of the Beats is hip hop legend Peril at his incomparable best and a must-have album for anyone who’s ever found themself with a persistent dancefloor itch, whenever a funky beat gets dropped.
