HIP HOP RELEASE: Diafrix - African Affair

Keywords:

In light of the events that have appeared in the news over the past couple of months, Melbourne, Australia-based Hip Hop group Diafrix have seen it as an opportune time to release the powerful single African Affair.

Originally intended to be released in early 2008 as the lead single for their upcoming debut album, the group pushed the release forward, feeling that it is important to promote positivity throughout the wider community and act as a voice for all of the new Australians who migrate to start a new life.

Diafrix MCs Momo and Azmarino understand the challenges that come with migrating to a new country. Momo arrived as a political refugee from the Comoros Islands, whilst Eritrean-born Azmarino has been a refugee all his life, living in Europe and the Middle East, before finally settling in Australia.

Active throughout the community, Azmarino (Khaled Abdulwahab) is a youth officer and cultural development worker for Multicultural Arts Victoria. In 2006 he was recognised for his tireless work with an award for outstanding leadership and contribution to the advancement of community arts and culture.

With support from community body African Think Tank, who provide a strong voice for the African population in Australia, Diafrix’s vision is one of integration and a desire for harmony throughout the community regardless race, colour, class or creed.
