Hailing from Camden in London, England, Charlie Sloth found himself in slightly more compromising situations than the average teenager. Despite having a background deeply rooted in criminal activity, Charlie breaks rap music’s common association with gangs and crime, choosing not to glamorise it.
Charlie’s first and most important taste of rap music was when he picked up NWA's Straight Outta Compton at 10 years old, which had evidently introduced him to Hip Hop culture.
Influenced by many forms of music Charlie first became known within the Garage music scene as it swept the UK. He was a member of Hype Squad, later forming the Hip Hop group Grimey Limeys. The group released The Big Boot mix-CD in 2004, which sold 10,000 copies independently.
Many of the UK’s high profile Hip Hop players will know Charlie Sloth from being victims of his prank calls, which became a feature of his pirate London radio show on Raw Flex. With an uncanny Jay-Z like ability to shun the pen and pad and construct songs completely in his head, Sloth tackles real life experiences and issues in his music.
Now, Charlie Sloth presents his highly anticipated solo debut project, In The Spotlight It’s Hard Being Good, the beginning of his plans for domination in the UK Hip Hop scene.
The 18-track line up features the likes of Hip Hop legend Craig G. and displays Charlie's musical versatility and top quality lyrical content.
2007 was a landmark year for Charlie, as he released three music videos, Come On Back To Me, Can’t Forget The UK and the award winning Guided Tour Of Camden. He also performed at the Cravefest Festival in Canada, the Rise Festival in Finsbury Park, Kung FU and the Jackalope Festival.
Charlie’s music was played in high rotation on every major Hip Hop radio show in the UK including on Choice FM, BBC 1Xtra, KISS FM, Rock FM and Radio 1 as well as press features in leading international publications such as The Source and Hip Hop Connection.
