Jeru The Damaja

Jeru Tha Damaja spent his early years in the Brooklyn, New York, rhyming at block parties as a youth. He first showcased his hardcore Brooklyn style to audiences on I'm the Man, from Gang Starr's 1992 album Daily Operation. The following year he released his first single, Come Clean, which was produced by DJ Premier and became an instant underground hit.

His first album, The Sun Rises in The East, was released in 1994 and produced entirely by DJ Premier. The album is considered a classic, and was one of the most acclaimed Hip Hop albums of its time. As an interesting side note, the album cover shows the World Trade Center on fire, long before the September 11th attacks but only a year after the 1993 bombing of the North Tower.

Following the release of 1996's The Wrath of Math, Jeru had a falling-out with his high school buddies, DJ Premier and Guru, deciding to take a hiatus until 1999 when he released his third album, Heroz4hire. It was his first album without production from DJ Premier and also his first under his then-newly created KnowSavage Records.

In 2003 he released the album Divine Design under his new record label, Ashenafi Records, which was followed by the acclaimed Still Rising in 2007.

The Beatnuts

Together, Psycho Les and Ju-Ju form one of the most respected underground acts to emerge out of NYC, The Beatnuts. The Queens, NY natives have achieved long lasting success in an industry that frequently says goodbye to past legends.

The duo signed with Relativity Records to release their debut EP, Intoxicated Demons, in 1993, which included the then third member of the group, Fashion. Shortly after the album's release Fashion was jailed for 6 months on drug charges, pursuing a solo career once he was released, under the new name Al Tariq, becoming a devout Muslim.

Soon afterwards, Les and Ju-Ju released a self titled album which officially put them on the Hip Hop radar. 1997 saw the release of the revered Stone Crazy, which included the legendary posse cut Off The Books featuring the late Big Pun and Cuban Link.

The Beatnuts released yet another well received album, A Musical Massacre, in 1999. The album featured possibly their biggest hit Watch Out Now and also featured collaborations with artists such as dead prez and Common.

Following the release of 2001's Take It Or Squeeze It, The 'Nuts went independent releasing The Originators in 2002 on Landspeed Records. Their latest album Milk Me, was released in 2004 through Penalty Recordings and featured some of their biggest collaborations to date including Rahzel, Freeway and Akon.
