Feature Article: Ray J

Believe it or not, Ray J has been in the entertainment industry for quite a while. He signed with Elektra in 1995, recording Everything You Want the following year with a bunch of superstar songwriters and producers behind him. In ‘97, he performed in a television special with his sister (Brandy), but despite the mainstream attention, he was dropped by Elektra soon after. His easygoing image and boyish looks appealed to the producers of Brandy's television show, Moesha, scoring him a role on the popular UPN series starting in 1999. He also started to put together the music for several commercials and a few of the demos for his second record. In 1997 his debut album Everything You Want contained the lead single Let It Go and was also featured on the smash soundtrack for Set It Off.

He has recently unleashed his latest creation - All I Feel which is his third effort. All I Feel is like a breath of fresh air with its fresh beats, nice melodies and sauchy lyrics. I think everybody is aware of Ray's reputation with the ladies and this album shows that he is a young man on the hunt for them. Women, sex, bling, sex and did I mention women! I think he's at a horny turning point in his life where he just needs a good.....hmmmm, well time in the bedroom. If you're into all that I have to say Ray J is talented as hell. Ray J is on top of the R&B I-tunes chart over all coming in top 10 over 5 different I-tunes categories.

He has some head bumpers here such as Jump Off and Where You At with The Game who ays makes a track bubble in my ears. Jump Off also has a crazy melody which piano fans will love. This album's first single is Sexy Can I and it features a decent rap by Young Berg. The track has a catchy sing along hook, but I don't know if any young ladies should play it to their daddies thanks to the line, “All five models swallow" and if you don't know what that means you shouldn't be listening at all! RJ continues the momentum with Gifts, a song about a talented stripper. This is an up-tempo number and is definitely a highlight.

Ray J has always been a slow-jams master as he proved on his classic One Wish from his last release (do a re-make pleeeaase). It's Up To You is one of the more respectable songs on the album and being a women, I would agree with Ray J as it is up to us! (I am women hear me roaar).

R&B fans, you would be doing yourself an injustice if you leave this one on the shelf. Ray J has done well for himself, I mean the whole sex tape scandal has garnered such publicity; he has 330,000 friends on MySpace and the video for Sexy Can I features NBA player Shaquille O'Neal goddammm no wonder it's been played over two million times on YouTube.

Ray J proves that he can stand alongside his male contemporaries such as Mario, Chris Brown, Usher and R. Kelly with All I Feel. At last Ray-J may finally be outshining his sister all to the enjoyment of the modern R&B freaks.
