You can see from this DVD why in the 70s and 80s, Miami was having the time of its life. Before then Miami was quiet and laid back with more-so elderly persons around. But this all changed once the Cocaine Cowboys got to work there, and why not, Miami already was a major transportation centre waiting for somebody to start their work. Cocaine was the fuel to upsize the economy of Miami. As more cocaine came in, more money was being distributed to the big guys and from here more businesses went up, clubs/bars, restaurants and partying harder than ever before. It’s crazy to think, if you where to walk into a club these days it would be spot the person who has cocaine, back then in Miami it would be spot the person who doesn’t have cocaine.
This DVD documentary of the Cocaine Cowboys gives a great insight into the working procedures. We have Jon Roberts and Mickey Munday telling us all about their experiences and thoughts throughout the process of making money from cocaine and the transportation of it. Just watching and listening to how much money was made. They where able to transport over 10 tones of Cocaine and generated over $2 Billion, BOOYAAA! It made me want in on the business (ha-ha).
We also see an interview with Jorge “Rivi” Ayala who speaks on his contract killings for “The Godmother” – Griselda Blanco. This lady was insane; no body would want to be in her way otherwise she would have them killed right then and there, just because she could. So not only was she obviously breaking the rule of ‘Don’t get high on your own supply’ Griselda broke the silent rule of not killing children, that’s when things turned and started to get bumpy. “Rivi” is still in prison.
There are stories also from their partners at the time and coroners, plus more from both sides of the law. If you guys enjoyed Scarface and Miami Vice well this is where they got their ideas from, this is the mother documentary of all the drug trafficking movies.
So if you’re a cocaine head you’ll want to watch it, if your not you’ll still want to watch it. Overall it’s a great story that needed to be told in the form of a documentary with the guys themselves instead of just another movie. Highly recommended!
