This is the most recent edition to the EMI Australia compilation series titled NOW. Obviously I am not a kin to all the music here, but you can’t but help appreciate some of the elements incorporated into the clips. For example if you are into Stacie Orrico, she looks damn fine in I’m Not Missing You. It is also great to see a good old fashioned food fight thanks to Nerina Pallot’s clip for Everybody’s Gone To War.
The show is started by the cheeky little ray of sunshine that is Lily Allen’s Smile. We are exposed to the eccentricities of The Sleepy Jackson and the thought provoking balladry of British native James Blunt. NOW Summer 2007 also offers some top notch Australian rock (Little Birdy, Jet and The Living End) and a bunch of funky dance floor acts (Basement Jaxx, Paul Mac and Hi_Tack). Electro vibe is provided by several acts including Sneaky Sound System on I Love It and thanks to the lead vocalist and relatively hot looking dancers, this clip is very easy to watch.
Urban music is well represented thanks to Cassie, Corinne Bailey Rae and LeToya. Chingy also makes an appearance on Pullin’ Me Back complete with hot car and bling in tact. I still don’t know what Sean Paul is saying but his track Temperature is catchy enough and the clip actually has girls wearing a lot of clothing.. props. But the real warmth comes from the rock act Sick Puppies and their clip for All The Same. If you haven’t seen this clip by now, it is basically a dude walking around a mall offering ‘free hugs.’ All naivety aside it is very touching to see complete strangers just embrace each other in a time of great social paranoia.
NOW Summer 2007 is a great collection of 40 tunes that will please many music lovers. Although bonus material and features are nowhere to be seen, the sheer scope should keep viewers interested and entertained. And I am happy to say I can now at any time watch Stars Are Blind by Paris Hilton just in case for some reason I want a quick death.
