Seth Green and co. have been spending most of their time of late playing with Star Wars dolls. Well that there is a damn good job – and one with results that even the great George Lucas has approved of, so much so they’ve made 30 minutes of pure Star Wars related stupidity out of it.
Robot Chicken is a stop-motion animated sketch show where pop culture is paradise and anything a fanboy can think of has the piss ripped out of it – this special release just happens to focus on a galaxy far, far away, and from the get go it’s clear that these lads know their Boba’s from their Bantha’s.
Opening with a Stormtrooper taking a Sith at the wrong place at the wrong time, the mood is set as we delve into the mad side of Lucas’ beloved saga. The honourable members of the Robot Chicken hen house have really sat down and twisted the Star Wars universe into how they see fit, giving their own version on memorable (and the easily missed) scenes that will have fans on the floor.
We’ve really struggled to separate our favourite moments because there are just too many to choose from. It could be Darth Vader calling to give Emperor Palpatine the bad news on the condition of the Death Star, or an induction day for Vader’s cronies explaining what to do if the Sith Lord tries to strangle you. However, the real pearler is the advert for Admiral Ackbar cereal (“you’re tongue’s can’t repel flavour of that magnitude!”) – I’m not kidding, even after 15 viewings it still hasn’t lost it – quality!
But whilst the praise goes to the ‘Chicken’ lads for their fantastic tribute, thanks must also be thrown towards Lucas as well. The most powerful beard in Hollywood has once again handed his creation over to a bunch of Star Wars fanatics and given the green light for them to basically pick away at all the things that have had fanboys up in arms for the past few years.
Medichlorians, Ewoks and of course, the centre of all hatred; Jar Jar Binks (bravely voiced by original Gungan, Ahmed Best) all end up in the firing line, proving that the lad can still be a good sport after all. This deserves to sit right up there alongside Family Guy’s Blue Harvest and one can only hope the Robot Chicken boys second knock at Star Wars is as good as this one.
A must buy for anyone with a lightsabre.
