Bones is an all encompassing crime drama featuring forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperence Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Special Agent Seely Booth (David Boreanaz). Brennan is a wiz at generating theories based on her examination of leftover bones from corpses and is often consulted by the FBI on certain cases.

Booth is the hip and wild ying to Brennan’s passive surgical yang, however, despite their differences, and with the aid of Brennan's gifted yet odd colleagues, the cases do get solved. Deschanel and Boreanaz are a different breed of Mulder and Skully. It is the odd blend of humour, friction and drama that keeps this series moving forward but not in the most traditional way. You won't find this sort of wicked rapport going on in any of the Law & Order or CSI shows. Brennan makes up for her social clumsiness and pop culture ignorance with her chops in the martial arts.

David Boreanaz plays quite a different role compared to his tortured and introspective character Angel (Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel). However, he shares some similarities with his former fang toting alter ego. Booth is trying to atone for past actions and does still solve crimes. Boreanaz brings self-assurance and charm to his character.

Bones has a great cast, fervent character development, and engrossing, polished storylines. There should be something here for everybody, even those who are not often a kin to crime dramas or touches of blood and guts. Special features contain character profiles and commentaries on the ‘Pilot’ and ‘Two Bodies in the Lab’. Disc 4 includes an 8-minute-long behind-the-scenes look; ‘The Real Definition’ - A guide to forensic terminology; and ‘Bones: Inspired by the Life of Forensic Anthropologist and Author Kathy Reichs’.
