More often than not when I look at hip hop, I find myself overlapping and talking about the black culture. I draw comparisons and often put the women from the “black” (and I use quotes for a particular purpose) origins and those that subscribe to that hip hop culture into the same category.
Intro of sorts - and we keep harping on...
The possible disdain towards the representations of women in the Hip Hop media is nothing new to anyone vaguely aware of the culture. At times it is almost taken for granted – Hip Hop is and has always been a male dominated sphere. The women are and have always been suppressed and this mentality is widely accepted.
