Kym Huynh
Kym Huynh is a singer/songwriter from Adelaide, but is now based in Melbourne. Kym was described by Jase Subramanium, principal of the Australian Institute of Contemporary Singing and senior teacher at the Jaanz School of Singing, as “One of the best songwriters I’ve ever met.” In fact, the last two songs Kym wrote, were described by Jase as “Instant hits!” Kym writes and collaborates with 001 Productions, the production house for artists such as Merril Bainbridge, CDB, Mercury Four and Big Brother.
Kym is currently making way for an album release. With songs such as Dirty Ways (a song about a pregnant 16 yearold prostitute) under his belt, Kym continues to write, and write, and write with the impression that at least 1 in every 20 songs he pens must be an instant hit, or a classic! Kym was always musically inclined, starting piano lessons at 8. Kym’s school, Haileybury College, was even forced to step in and actively stop Kym from participating in too much music.
He started missing more than half his academic classes when he was 13 due to taking piano, violin and drum lessons, playing in the orchestra, string orchestra and percussion ensemble and singing in the choir all simultaneously! Kym spent his early years singing in school choirs and performing in musicals such as Godspell and Peter Pan. It wasn’t until he was out of high school that he joined the Jaanz School of Singing. Under the tuition of Jase Subramanium, Kym spent the first two years learning how to use his voice and sang backup vocals on 2004’s Good Friday Appeal whilst performing every Sunday at cafes around South Yarra and Prahan.
Kym now focuses on original material and collaborates with singers, artists, songwriters and producers such as Tony Hunt, Craig Bryant and Marcus Jilla. He has distributed more than 3,500 copies of his songs over the Internet and been selected as an Editor’s Highlight on CNET’s Music. The Editors at CNET say, “Kym is addicted to rhymes, and he weighs them down with heartfelt R&B-pop melodies. The result is a vibrantly glowing sound that's enhanced by Kym's thought-provoking lyricism.” Sam Melamed from 001 Productions describes Kym’s writing as “Pretty good!” Whether this comment is a severe understatement (hopefully!) or whether it’s indicative of knowing that Kym can only improve, Kym will continue writing, writing, writing and singing, singing and singing all the way to the land where people eat, sleep and dream music and where their breathes smell like music.
