Felicia Alima
Felicia Alima brings some Aussie flava to the US music scene.
With the release of her debut EP, The Way We Do in 2006, R&B artist and songwriter Felicia Alima took the bold first step in a solo career of absolute guarantee. The Australian-born, half Indonesian, half Czech beauty is undoubtedly the next big thing to represent Australian R&B.
Born in Melbourne, Victoria, but raised in Perth, Western Australia, Felicia grew up in a family accustomed to art and music - her father being a great influence as an avid guitarist and musician. No stranger to performing, Felicia’s childhood involved singing and writing songs. Joining a youth singing and dance organization called the PCYC (Police and Citizen’s Youth Club) when she was 10, she got her first experience of performing on stage.
When she was 14, influenced by rap, hip-hop and R&B music, Felicia formed a group called CMF (Crazy Mad Flavor), and recorded and performed original material. At the age of 16, she attended weekly workshops at her local community center and practiced her performances, and in-turn performed at all age hip-hop jams around Perth, Western Australia, where she grew up.
Upon graduating from university, Felicia moved to the USA in 2002, endeavored a new life, and learned from a lot of experiences.
As a songwriter, Felicia diligently reflects on her life experiences through her songs.
“I've been writing lyrics and poems since I was about 10, but in my recent years have I had real experiences to draw from. Moving to the USA alone has influenced me in a major way. I learnt so much about myself in my solitude, and you quickly realize what is really important to you, and what you want out of life.”
On the play lists of several Perth and Melbourne radio stations, Felicia Alima is a rising star. She has won two US music awards at the 2007 Madison Area Music Awards (MAMA) in the categories of “RnB/HipHop Album of the Year” for her EP The Way We Do; and earned the title of “RnB/HipHop Artist of the Year”. Felicia was also nominated in the “Pop Artist of the Year” and “The Song of The Year (R&B)” categories, (in which she received two nominations) for her songs “Know Me” and “I’m Down”.
Promoted and marketed by Felicia’s own entertainment company, Chantik Soul Entertainment, (Chantik meaning “beautiful” in Bahasa Indonesia), Felicia is able to create music that represents her heart and soul without having to compromise her artistic integrity.
With the release of Felicia’s much anticipated debut album Know Me, (set to be released summer 2007), she is expected to take-over the Aussie R&B scene, with due respect.
