DJ Fokus

With the proliferation of Australian hip hop, which merely hopes to mimic the traditional American style of rap, it is refreshing to come across a local hip hop label, which challenges the boundaries of this genre of music. Since the launch of Magician Records in early 2004, its founder and executive producer, DJ Fokus, has recruited artists whose lyrical skills are entertaining of thought provoking. The highly anticipated album (Unfinished Infamy), addresses unconventional topics that don’t conform to the monotonous party jams which so often dominate our commercial hip hop scene.

Magician Records boasts a diverse roster of artist’s whose clever and witty lyricism is well complimented by new age, yet unorthodox beats which, still manage to remain true to the roots of Hip Hop. Acts on the label include Soulja, Slackjaw and Breadead, who all have a unique style are can most certainly rock the mic.

Apart from the release of the debut compilation album, Magician Records has several other projects in the pipe works, including the publication of several solo projects, and upcoming promotional gigs. At this stage it appears that Magician’s creative exploits seem limitless, and their debut album truly establishes this upcoming label as a force to be reckoned with.
