All hail the First Lady of Dancehall!!
Walk Out is the latest album from Jamaican star Lady Saw, and boy is it fun. Featuring outstanding production from some of Jamaica’s finest, and a wonderful blend of party starters, and introspective ballads, this album is one to watch on the charts.
By far the stand out is the Sly & Robbie produced Not The World’s Prettiest, which finds Saw in a thoughtful mood. It is a track that undermines the celebrity infatuation with beauty, and the lyrics blend beautifully with the Riddim Kings production. Hello Lady Saw, the opening track, is a bopping dancehall piece that is part Rihanna, and part Beenie Man, quite a mix!
I love genre bending music, and this album finds that wonderful balance that escapes most modern releases. With such a rich musical heritage, Jamaica has been barren ground for some time now; hopefully this album will see a turn around from the home of the Rastas!
