Rude Bwoy’s of Melbourne UNITE!! Grab your Rizzla’s, comb your natty dreads, and succumb to the wicked sounds of Mista Savona’s new album Melbourne Meets Kingston.
The idea for Savona’s album is deceptively simple, take the best of the Aussie dancehall scene, and take it to Jamaica to make a dangerously seductive new sound. Tracks such as Without Love (featuring Sugar Dee) and Blaze The Fire (featuring Anthony B) are exceptionally boppy dancehall bangers that will have you swinging your dreads at a frantic rate. Other highlights include Trome Corn, which is a true homage to the path laden by such dancehall pioneers as Beenie Man and Capleton. It’s a beautiful blend of Aussie themes, with a straight-up Jamaican sound.
Words and Meditation, a thumping instrumental dub track is the perfect backing track to any party. The rest of Melbourne Meets Kingston flows seamlessly between party tracks, and more reserved, personal tracks that break down genre and cultural boundaries. It is of course no surprise that this breakdown of cultural barriers is furthered by the involvement of Melbourne reggae pioneer Jesse I.
Pick up Melbourne Meets Kingston, not only for the infectious beats and outrageous rhymes, but also to hear a piece of history. It is so important in these times, to have art that breaks down boundaries, and this album does this with a force like no other.
