Mind Control - Stephen Marley

Interviews - Ise Lyfe, Massari, London

Give up! Don't fight it! Let Stephen Marley take Mind Control!

The new album from Stephen (son of Bob) Marley is a fantastically produced collection of some of the best new reggae tunes produced for a long, long time.

As the mastermind behind 1999's Chant Down Babylon, a remix album of his father's work, and as the producer of his brother Damian's sensational 2005 album Welcome to Jamrock, Stephen certainly has the pedigree to allow the listener to feel safe giving over control of one's mind.

From the opening track, Stephen weaves a web of super-produced beats, with roots inspired lyrics that will have you bopping and wanting to listen over and over. Hey Baby featuring Mos Def is an enchanting piece, whilst The Traffic Jam featuring his brother Damian, has one of the best beatbox beats, mixed with Damian’s hot lyrics. Also featuring Mr. Cheeks, Spragga Benz and Ben Harper, this is truly a significant arrival on the big stage for Stephen. His ability to weave between roots reggae, modern dancehall and hip-hop is enormously fresh, and gives this reggae tragic the hope that the genre has many years to live yet.

There really is no need to even fight it...just let Stephen Marley take full Mind Control.
