Album: Lowrider - Diamond Amongst The Thieves

Body:

With Australian music getting better and better all the time it’s a rare privilege to review an Australian album that is truly incredible. Lowrider has produced Diamond Amongst The Thieves and have not only hit a home run, but they’ve knocked the ball way out of the park! From the moment this album starts, you would never think that firstly Lowrider is Australian, and secondly that they are white. Lead singer Joe Braithwaite has an incredibly soulful and dramatic voice made for funk/soul/blues/hip hop and I know you’ll agree. If there is a group that should be flying the Australian music flag right now, it should be Lowrider.

I’m a big fan of albums that I can put on and leave on until they finish, and given the unfortunate state of music from T.V. made pop stars and Myspace musical stars it’s a great pleasure to be able to enjoy a whole album and not just a single. Having toured with people like Christina Aguilera and Hilltop Hoods and rocking events like Big Day Out and Make Poverty History, you know that these guys are on the verge of being bigger than the Australian music scene.

Diamond Amongst The Thieves is an incredibly intricate album and yet so simple. It’s music that you feel and finds its way inside your soul. Much like their influences in Erykah Badu, D’Angelo and Marvin Gaye you’ll feel that their music has meaning and is written with heart, not simply to make it on the radio. Lowrider is an amazingly talented group and I take great pleasure in highly recommending this album. My favourite tracks include Let’s Go Now, Going Up and my absolute favourite of the album is Done With This. When you buy this album be prepared to chill more than the ice age.
