Drapht The Brothers Grimm

Interviews - Tanya Morgan, Opio and Khia

Ever thrown on the radio and said to yourself, “I know that voice, that’s …”? I did this when I threw on Drapht’s album Brothers Grimm. From the first few syllables I felt like I was listening to Pressure from Hilltop Hoods after he had scooped up some helium! Drapht’s style is very unique and he possesses a distinct voice that cruises over beats like a supped up Skyline on Chapel Street.

The first track Falling really caught my ear as the beat is outstanding. Using some beautifully crafted strings and a dope vocal sample it kicks off the album in an incredibly creative way. Insomnia made me feel like I had traveled back in time 10 or 15 years in Aussie hip hop, lucky for Drapht he pulls it off and makes it feel more comfortable than an old pair of Jordans.

Skip a couple of tracks and you’re presented with another joint that suits Drapht’s slow flow in Dreams & Dreamers. Lyrically Drapht is artistic and challenging - take these examples “I got a dream and it might seem thin, but I couldn’t breathe without it it’s my Siamese twin” or “Rest is excellent but boredom is his brother, death is his cousin age is his mother”.

Featuring production by M-Phazes and Plutonic Lab and cuts by Trials, Carlsani and Dazastah this is an album that lacks a lot of featured artists and to that I say THANK GOD!!! It’s nice to have a hip hop album from an artist that doesn’t fill it full of their mates.
